Overview
College of Medical Polytechnic - Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences (NAIHS-COMP) was established in the year 2017 and has succeeded in achieving academic excellence and the goal of making standard medical education of all levels available and affordable. The college started 3 years PCL program with an intake of 142 students in five different prpgrams (General Medicine, Diagnostic Radiography, Medical Lab Technology, Physiotherapy, and Diploma in Pharmacy) under the affiliation of CTEVT. The total intake in the PCL programs has reached 574 students over the past four years of the Totalfour batches enrolled so far,1st batch of the PCL program is about to graduate.
NAIHS-College of Medical Polytechnic (NAIHS-COMP) is located at Bhandarkhal, Syanobharyang; a city in the northwestern part of Kathmandu Valley. The scenic views around the college are awe-inspiring with the Swoyambhunath Stupa on its front side and the lust green vegetation of Halchowk Hill, Ichangunarayan Hill, and Nagarjun Hill in its backdrop. The college environment is quiet and peaceful.
The college has a three-phase electricity supply along with a generator back–up power, a well-equipped laboratory, sufficient books in the library, and an adequate safe, and wholesome water supply with its own water purification system. The college is situated only about 500 meters from the ring road. The distance between the college and Shree Birendra Hospital (Teaching Hospital) is about two and a half kilometers.

Nepalese Army institute of health sciences (NAIHS) established in 2067 BS (2010 AD), has already been recognized as a prestigious institution in a very short span of time. With the drive of achieving academic excellence and the goal of making standard medical education of all levels available and affordable, NAIHS has added its polytechnic (allied health sciences) wing, which currently plans to offer a variety of programs, such as General Medicine, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Technology, Diagnostic Radiography, and Physiotherapy. NAIHS, college of Medical Polytechnic(NAIHS-COMP) has modern facilities that include state-of-the-art laboratories, seminar rooms, a well-equipped computer laboratory, and a resource-rich library. Our teaching hospital, Shree Birendra Hospital (SBH) at Chhauni, is one of the oldest multidisciplinary referral hospitals in the country and is continuously being upgraded with modern medical equipment and amenities for academic and patient-care needs along with its rehabilitation Center at Bhandarkhal, Sanobharyang complements the care needed for patients with various types of injuries. The major assets of our college are highly qualified and reputed academicians and the twenty-first-century robust infrastructure. I believe that this is one of the reasons why NAIHS stands as the number one choice for most students aspiring for medical education in various programs. In furthering the goals of establishing NAIHS as a nationally recognized center of academic and professional excellence in healthcare, our college plans to add various graduate and post-graduate programs in the near future.I assure you that NAIHS-COMP is on a fast track to achieving the aims and goals of NAIHS and I hope, you, as a student or as a parent or guardian, will perceive the effects of our intensive efforts in imparting standard medical education. The College of Medical Polytechnic in its first phase runs the following programs with the stated number of students.
- Proficiency Certificate Level in General Medicine - 40
- Diploma in Pharmacy - 40
- Certificate in Medical Lab Technology - 30
- Proficiency Certificate Level in Radiography - 30
- Proficiency Certificate Level in Physiotherapy - 30
SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships are provided in the form of subsidization in tuition fees only under specific categories. Thirty to thirty-five percent of the students in an annual intake receive full to partial waiver on tuition fees/scholarships. In addition, those civil students who belong to and study in inaccessible areas, have low economic conditions, are of reserved category, and women, priority are provided special full scholarships from NAIHS.
TEACHING AND LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
There are 15 classrooms with a capacity of accommodating 40 students at a time with a separate desk and a chair for each student. The classrooms are soundproof, well-furnished, and equipped with modern audio-visual aids. There are six well-equipped basic science laboratories. An auditorium with a capacity of 600 is available in the auditorium complex for seminars, conferences, and other events.
The College of Medical Polytechnic has a good fleet of well-experienced and devoted faculty members with a long teaching careers. The professionally trained faculty members strive hard to facilitate the process of teaching and learning. Many of them have completed their master’s degrees from institutions within and outside the country.
LIBRARY
NAIHS-COMP has the privilege of having its own library good lighting system, ventilation, and adequate space. It homes more than 2500 books including relevant journals, magazines, IEC material, reports and newspapers, and electronically retrievable documents. It has facilities WiFi, photocopy and printers. The library remains open from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. on working days. The college has access to the central library of NAIHS and the hospital library at Shree Birendra Hospital as well.
TEACHING HOSPITAL
Medical Services in the Nepalese Army started in 1982 BS (1925 AD) with the establishment of Tri-Chandra Military Hospital (TCMH). TCMH carries the legacy of being one of the first few modern hospitals in Nepal. After the establishment of Shree Birendra Hospital (SBH) in 2045 BS (1988 AD), most of the medical services were shifted to this hospital from TCMH.
SBH, located at Chhauni, Kathmandu, is the teaching hospital of the College of Medical Polytechnic. It is a tertiary level, modern, and referral hospital of the Nepalese Army. It provides all types of medical services to serving army personnel, retired army personnel, and their dependents. The hospital also provides medical services to civilians as well.
The Rehabilitation Centre of the Nepalese Army is located on the northern side of the NAIHS-COMP complex. It currently provides rehabilitative services to injured and physically challenged army personnel.
College buses of NAIHS-COMP ferry the students from NAIHS to Shree Birendra Hospital for clinical practices. College buses are also the means of transportation for the students participating in the community field visit.
HEALTH CARE
All students of NAIHS-COMP are provided with emergency medical care at Shree Birendra Hospital. A separate Medical Infirmary (MI) room is available in the college complex to manage minor injuries and illnesses. Any major chronic illnesses including malignancy, chronic kidney disease, chronic cardiac conditions, etc will not be handled by the institution.
COLLEGE RULES
All students of NAIHS-COMP will wear the designated uniform during the hours of college, hospital postings, and community field postings and on special occasions as per the direction of the administration. They are expected to be neat, well dressed, and maintain dress etiquette. The students will have to exhibit good manner, discipline, and a high moral character in the college, hospital premises, and community field visits. Stern disciplinary actions, such as various levels of academic suspension and even expulsion from college, can result based on the degree of the disciplinary act. The institute observes zero tolerance for gender harassment.
Attendance and performance in the internal assessments are considered very seriously in NAIHS-COMP. The college will not allow students to sit in the board examinations if that student fails to meet the criteria of 90% attendance requirement and a passing performance in the internal assessments.
Any academic or even non-academic issues pertaining to the student’s welfare will be heard by the Student Welfare Section, Year Coordinators, and beyond, if necessary.
FEES AND FINANCIAL STRUCTURE
The details of the fees and financial structure can be obtained from the Account section of NAIHS-COMP. Students will have to pay admission fees, Tuition fees, examination fees, and refundable deposits in the account of NAIHS-COMP. In addition, fees such as examination fees, CTEVT registration fees, and community field practice fees will have to be paid by students to their respective institutions.
Fees, once deposited to NAIHS- COMP, shall not be refunded under any circumstances.
ADMISSION
The entrance examination is conducted by the CTEVT. Admission is based solely on the merit list of the entrance examination conducted by CTEVT. The information on the distribution of seats for the intake of students in different programs can be obtained from the administrative section of NAIHS-COMP.
