Overview

Chitwan Engineering Campus (CEC), a constituent campus of Tribhuvan University's Institute of Engineering (IOE), marks an essential step in making technical education available outside the Kathmandu Valley. Founded in 2019, CEC is the sixty-third constituent campus under the IOE, broadening access to engineering studies within Bagmati Province.

Located in Bharatpur Metropolitan Ward No. 15, Rampur, the campus began with an academic focus on architecture. It aims to provide quality education and contribute to Nepal's growth.

This initiative, supported by the Office of the Prime Minister Council of Ministers and the Tribhuvan University Senate, demonstrates the university's dedication to technical development throughout Nepal. It reflects a commitment to high-quality engineering programs nationwide and increasing the country's knowledge capital resources. The campus is a response to the recommendations of the High-Level Commission report 2073.

Academic Programs

Currently, Chitwan Engineering Campus provides a Bachelor in Architecture program. This B. Arch program is a five-year, ten-semester course designed to give students a balance of artistic and technical skills. CEC started with an intake of 24 students, and the academic courses are structured to prepare them for roles in the field.

These include architectural design and urban planning. The campus plans to add more academic programs in other engineering areas in the coming years to provide more educational paths.

These additional programs will include other bachelor-level programs. The decision to begin with architecture matches the need for infrastructure development and functional and visually appealing structures. This provides a framework for understanding the complexities of engineering and design.

Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch)

Chitwan Engineering Campus currently offers the Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) program as its primary academic offering. This five-year, ten-semester undergraduate course is designed to develop well-rounded architectural professionals.

The program aims to train students with the necessary design skills, technical understanding, and theoretical knowledge for career growth in the built environment.

The curriculum is developed to cover all aspects of architecture, from basic design principles to advanced construction technologies and urban planning.

The B.Arch program takes into account the local needs as well as global trends in the architectural profession. The program is taught to cultivate creativity and critical thinking, enabling students to conceptualize, plan, and implement projects with a strong understanding of the art and science of building.

The Development of Academic Programs

CEC developed academic programs following a feasibility study report from the Dean's office. A team visit in February 2019 resulted in the proposal for six bachelor-level programs.

The faculty board steering committee at IOE approved the current program and plans for future academic programs. The campus is focused on need-based academic programs, meaning its course offerings will reflect the country's changing needs.

Admissions

Potential students must follow a detailed process to join the Chitwan Engineering Campus. The main admission guideline for the Bachelor of Architecture program involves taking the Institute of Engineering entrance examination.

Eligibility requires students to pass their 10+2 or equivalent from the Science stream, including mathematics. They must also have a minimum score of 45% to sit for the entrance test.

The IOE Entrance Examination Details

The entrance examination takes place every August at Pulchowk Engineering College. It tests students in math, English, chemistry, and physics. Students can find sample questions on the IOE website.

The computer-based test, which lasts two hours and is worth 140 points, is open to international students. However, only those who want to enroll in bachelor-level programs must take the entrance exam.

What Happens After the Entrance Exam?

The admission process includes releasing results on the entrance exam website within three to four days of the test. Students must bring a physical copy of their scores when they apply.

The campus may also give an aptitude exam to check students' analytical abilities. For Bachelor of Architecture candidates, this could include a drawing test to evaluate their creativity.

A student's experience: "When I was preparing for my entrance exam, it was a tough period. I spent most days going over math and physics concepts. I still remember how relieved I was when I saw my name on the result list!" says one student at CEC.

Campus Life

Chitwan Engineering Campus is located on a large 40 Bigha and nineteen Khatta piece of land. It is actively developing its physical infrastructure, which is projected to cost about twenty Arabs in Nepalese currency.

This ample space will allow for the development of facilities and physical infrastructure. The goal is to have a supportive and inspiring environment.

This institution's establishment date, March 10, 2019, marks a new beginning in quality technical education in Nepal.
