Overview
Bishwo Bhasa Campus (Campus of International Languages - CIL) is at the heart of the capital city of Kathmandu, Nepal. It is the only language-teaching campus under Tribhuvan University (TU), the oldest university in Nepal. This is the only campus in Kathmandu that teaches different languages.
Languages Offered
Currently, two language programs are running on the campus: the Himalayan Language Program, which includes Nepali, Sanskrit, Newari, and Tibetan, and the Foreign Language Program, which has Italian, Russian, Spanish, French, German, and English classes. Bishwa Bhasa Campus will soon introduce Danish, Arabic, Hebrew, and Norwegian.
Language programs other than English are offered as two-year courses divided into four semesters. The first two semesters constitute the ‘Ordinary Level,’ and the last two constitute the ‘Advanced Level.’ The Nepali language program also has a Post-Advanced third-year course that includes the study of Nepali Grammar, history, culture, and literature. The campus has also started a third-year Japanese language course. The English language program is divided into ‘Basic English’ and ‘Advanced/Writing English’.
The International Languages (CIL) campus boasts a well-trained and experienced faculty, including Nepalese and foreign nationals. It has native speakers to teach Himalayan Languages, whereas foreign languages are taught either by Nepalese teachers or foreign native speakers of the respective languages. Himalayan languages are offered only to foreign (non-Nepalese) students, and the foreign languages are only for Nepalese students.
About the Bishwa Bhasa Campus classrooms, each classroom has a facility for 30 students. The classrooms are well-furnished, and they are well-equipped with modern audio-visual facilities.
