Nepal Government Prepared for Renewal of EPS Korea System: Minister for Labor, Employment, and Social Security Krishna Kumar Shrestha has urged Ambassador Park to expedite the conclusion of the bilateral agreement on the employment permit system, which has been in the process of renewal since 2020. Ambassador Park said that necessary preparations will be made to renew the EPS agreement as soon as possible. The last bilateral agreement between the governments of Nepal and South Korea in 2007 on the employment permit system was last renewed in 2018 and has been in the process of renewal since 2020.
Minister Shrestha has requested to make arrangements to take away 10,000 Nepalis who have passed the Korean language test as they are in the process of going to Korea. Nepal has also requested to increase the quota available under the employment permit system. South Korea has been taking Nepali workers since 2008 by allocating quotas. Under the EPS system, 16 countries have been working in Korea by giving Korean language tests for foreign employment. Ambassador Park said that the South Korean government is positive to increase the number of Nepali workers under EPS.
Stating that 2,000 Nepalis who passed the language test under EPS in 2018 could not participate in the process as their term in the roster has expired, Minister Shrestha has requested to extend the term and participate in the process. Minister Shrestha said that the ministry is preparing to start language tests for those going to South Korea for employment under the Employment Permit System (EPS) from May 30.
