Nepal Government and Public Holidays for 2082 B.S. (2025/2026)

The Government of Nepal has declared the following public, festival, and substitution holidays along with office hours for all government offices and public institutions from Baisakh 1 to the end of Chaitra 2082 B.S. This notice is published accordingly:

1. Weekly Saturday Holidays Throughout the Year:

  • Baisakh: 6, 13, 20, 27

  • Jestha: 3, 10, 17, 24, 31

  • Ashadh: 7, 14, 21, 28

  • Shrawan: 3, 10, 17, 24, 31

  • Bhadra: 7, 14, 21, 28

  • Ashwin: 4, 11, 18, 25

  • Kartik: 1, 8, 15, 22, 29

  • Mangsir: 6, 13, 20, 27

  • Poush: 5, 12, 19, 26

  • Magh: 3, 10, 17, 24

  • Falgun: 2, 9, 16, 23, 30

  • Chaitra: 7, 14, 21, 28

2. Festival Holidays:

2.1. Nationwide Public Holidays:

  • New Year’s Day: Baisakh 1 (Monday)

  • Chandi Purnima (Buddha Jayanti, Ubhauli Festival of Kirat communities): Baisakh 29 (Monday)

  • Raksha Bandhan: Shrawan 24 (Saturday)

  • Shree Krishna Janmashtami: Shrawan 31 (Saturday)

  • Ghatasthapana: Ashwin 6 (Monday)

  • Dashain Holidays (Phulpati to Dwadashi): Ashwin 13 to 18 (Monday to Saturday)

  • Tihar Holidays (Lakshmi Puja to the day after Bhai Tika): Kartik 3 to 7 (Monday to Friday)

  • Chhath Festival: Kartik 10 (Monday)

  • Dhanya Purnima, Yomari Punhi, Jyapu Day (Kirat festival): Mangsir 18 (Thursday)

  • Christmas (Christian Festival): Poush 10 (Thursday)

  • Tamu Lhosar: Poush 15 (Tuesday)

  • Maghi / Maghe Sankranti: Magh 1 (Thursday)

  • Sonam Lhosar: Magh 5 (Monday)

  • Maha Shivaratri: Falgun 3 (Sunday)

  • Gyalpo Lhosar: Falgun 6 (Wednesday)

  • Eid ul-Fitr (Muslim Festival): On the day it falls

  • Bakr Eid (Eid ul-Adha, Muslim Festival): On the day it falls

  • Holi (Fagu Purnima):

    • In 56 hill and Himalayan districts: Falgun 18 (Monday)

    • In the following Terai districts: Falgun 19 (Tuesday):
      Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Saptari, Siraha, Udayapur, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara, Parsa, Nawalparasi (East and West), Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Kailali, Kanchanpur

  • Ram Navami: Chaitra 13 (Friday)

2.2. Public Holidays for Specific Religion, Culture, Geography, or Location:

  • Gaijatra: Shrawan 25 (Sunday) – Only for Newar communities across the country

  • Gaura Festival: Bhadra 15 (Sunday)

  • Siruwa Pawani: For districts observing this festival: Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Siraha, and Saptari

3. For Female Employees Only:

  • Haritalika Teej Fast: Bhadra 10 (Tuesday)

  • Jitiya Festival: Bhadra 30 (Monday) – For female employees who observe this festival

4. For Educational Institutions Only:

  • Basant Panchami: Magh 9 (Friday)

5. Jatra Holidays (For Kathmandu Valley Only):

  • Gaijatra: Shrawan 25 (Sunday)

  • Indra Jatra: Bhadra 21 (Saturday)

  • Bhoto Jatra of Rato Machhindranath: On the day the event is held

  • Ghode Jatra: Chaitra 4 (Wednesday)

6. Commemorative Days:

6.1. Nationwide Public Holidays for Commemorative Days:

  • International Workers’ Day (May 1): Baisakh 18 (Thursday)

  • Republic Day: Jestha 15 (Thursday)

  • Constitution Day (National Day): Ashwin 3 (Friday)

  • Martyrs’ Day: Magh 16 (Friday)

  • National Democracy Day: Falgun 7 (Thursday)

  • International Women’s Day (March 8): Falgun 24 (Sunday)

6.2. For Employees with Disabilities Only:

  • International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3): Mangsir 17 (Wednesday)

7. Birth Anniversary Holidays:

7.1. Nationwide Public Birth Anniversary Holidays:

  • Buddha Jayanti: Baisakh 29 (Monday)

  • Prithvi Jayanti (National Unity Day): Poush 27 (Sunday)

7.2. Public Holidays for Respective Religious Groups Only:

  • Falgunanda Jayanti: Kartik 25 (Tuesday) – For followers of the Kirat religion

  • Muhammad Jayanti: On the day it falls – For Nepali Muslims

  • Guru Nanak Jayanti: On the day it falls – For Nepali Sikhs

8. Nationally Observed Days (Offices Remain Open):

  • National Day for Elimination of Racial Discrimination and Untouchability: Jestha 21 (Wednesday)

  • Civil Service Day: Bhadra 22 (Sunday)

9. Holidays for Nepali Missions Abroad:

Nepali diplomatic missions abroad may adjust and manage up to 18 days of public holidays based on the host country's official holidays.

10. Special Provision for Public Service Delivery:

10.1. On the Following Holidays, Ministries and Concerned Offices Must Arrange Services:

  • Shrawan 24 (Raksha Bandhan)

  • Shrawan 31 (Shree Krishna Janmashtami)

  • Poush 10 (Christmas Day)

  • Poush 15 (Tamu Lhosar)

  • Magh 1 (Maghi/Maghe Sankranti)

  • Magh 5 (Sonam Lhosar)

  • Falgun 3 (Maha Shivaratri)

  • Falgun 6 (Gyalpo Lhosar)

  • Eid ul-Fitr and Bakr Eid (Muslim festivals)

  • Jatra Holidays (Gaijatra, Indra Jatra, Bhoto Jatra, Ghode Jatra)

  • Jestha 15 (Republic Day)

  • Magh 16 (Martyrs’ Day)

  • Falgun 7 (National Democracy Day)

  • Falgun 24 (International Women’s Day)

  • Baisakh 29 (Buddha Jayanti)

  • Poush 27 (Prithvi Jayanti/National Unity Day)

Public Services to Be Operated on These Days:

  • Citizenship Services

  • Consular Services

  • Customs and Revenue (including Revenue Investigation)

  • Quarantine Services

  • Transportation and Vehicle Registration/Renewal

  • Industry, Commerce, and Company Administration

  • Foreign Employment Services

  • National ID and Registration

  • Land Revenue and Surveying

  • Local Government Services

  • Veterinary Services

  • Water Supply

  • Electricity

  • Road and Sewerage Maintenance

  • Food and Quality Inspection

  • Examination Administration by Public Institutions

  • No Objection Certificate (NOC) Services

  • Character Certificate Issuance by Nepal Police

  • Other Public Services Assigned by Concerned Ministries

  • Public Services by Provincial or Local Governments

  • Banking and Insurance Transactions

10.2. Daily and Emergency Services to Remain Uninterrupted on Public Holidays:

  • Hospitals

  • Telecommunications

  • Police

  • Immigration

  • Prisons

  • Waste Management

  • Fire Brigade

  • Mint (Takshar)

  • Broadcasting Services (Radio Nepal, Nepal Television)

  • Printing Department

  • Peace and Security

  • Disaster Response Agencies

These offices must continue their daily work without interruption.

10.3. For Employees Involved in Essential or Emergency Services:

Related offices must arrange substitute holidays in rotation for employees engaged in essential and emergency services as per clauses 10.1 and 10.2.

11. Office Hours:

(a) For All Government Offices Across Nepal:

  • From Baisakh 1 to Kartik 15 and from Magh 16 to Chaitra End: 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM

  • From Kartik 16 to Magh 15: 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

(b) On Fridays: 

10:00 AM to 3:00 PM

12. Management of Essential and Emergency Services:

In accordance with the Essential Services Operation Act, 2014, services related to:

  • Postal or Telephone

  • Passenger or Goods Transportation by Land, Water, or Air

  • Airport and Aircraft Operations and Maintenance

  • Cargo Handling at Airports, Railways, or Government Warehouses

  • Government Printing Services

  • Weapons and Military Supplies Production and Storage

  • Any other services announced by the Nepal Government through the Nepal Gazette must be ensured without interruption.

Each district must form a committee led by the Chief District Officer, with members including:

  • Medical Superintendent / Chief of District Health Office

  • District Coordination Officer

  • District Police Chief

  • Assistant CDO as Member-Secretary

This committee is responsible for ensuring uninterrupted operation of these services on public holidays.

Additional Notes:

(a) In addition to central government holidays, Provincial Governments may declare up to 6 public holidays annually based on local religion, culture, and practices, which must be observed by federal offices within that province. If more than 6 are declared or if it affects the Kathmandu Valley, final decisions will be made by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

(b) Once declared in the Provincial Gazette, the District Administration Office of the provincial capital must verify and send holiday requests in advance to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

(c) “Half-day” means:

  • Till 1:30 PM from Baisakh 1 to Kartik 15 and Magh 16 to Chaitra end

  • Till 1:00 PM from Kartik 16 to Magh 15

(d) Lunch Break: 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM
