Academic Year 2021/2022

Kathmandu University calls for application for admission in Undergraduate Programs in School of Science and School of Engineering for the academic year 2021/2022. In order to be fully eligible for admission, candidates must have passed 10+2 level (or equivalent) with an additional requirement of minimum marks or grade in aggregate and individual subjects as specified for individual programs.

*Candidates seeking admission in BE Geomatics Engineering and BTech in Al are instructed to read the additional information document available in the admission portal.

**Candidates seeking admission in BArch Architecture need to appear and pass in an additional aptitude test conducted by the department after the publication of the KUCAT CBT program-wise merit list.

2. Eligibility criteria for admission:

In order to be fully eligible for admission. candidates must have passed 10+2 level (or equivalent) with a minimum aggregate GPA of 2.0 (aggregate 50% in percentage scale) and grade C individually in each course. Candidates must have appeared in Kathmandu University Common Admission Test (KUCAT-CBT 2021) and obtained the required threshold score in the test. Students. who has completed 10+2 in the biology stream and applying for the PCM test? must have taken an additional mathematics course and passed it with required cumulative and individual scores. Additional requirements for specific programs are as given below:

B.Tech in Biotechnology
B.Sc in Agriculture

- Must have taken PCB (Physics. Chemistry and Biology) in both XI and XII.

- A minimum grade of C individually in each course.

OR,

If the student has been evaluated in the percentage system, a minimum of 50% in aggregate of PCB.

2.1 Candidates must have some combination of PCM. PMCs or PCB (whichever applies to the candidate) in both grade XI and XII.

2.2 Candidates who have passed all courses of grade XI and have appeared/applied for the final exams of grade XII and are awaiting the results can apply for the KUCAT-CBT-2021. Such a candidate is also eligible for provisional admission after scoring pass marks in KUCAT CBT 2021 entrance exam. Rules and other details regarding provisional admission will be made public during the admission offer call.

2.3 For the purpose of subjects with separate theory and practical components. candidates must satisfy the minimum grade requirement individually in both theory and practical.

2.4 For the courses taken both in grade XI and XII, candidates must satisfy the minimum grade requirement individually in both years.

2.5 Candidates must appear in KUCAT-CBT- 2021 entrance exam with the PCM test group for all programs, except for BSc in Environmental Science and BTech in Biotechnology for which candidates can choose either PCM or PCB test groups.

Candidates applying for BSc in Agriculture must appear in KUCAT-CBT- 2021 entrance exam with the PCB test group.

2.6 Candidates who have completed +2 equivalent GCSE A-Level shall have at least 3 courses at Advanced Level (A level) and 1 in AS level with at least C standing in each course. Whenever percentile of the marks is provided, then, aggregate 50% in percentage scale will also be applicable.

2.6.1 The three advanced level courses required varies from program to program: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics for BE Electrical and Electronics Engineering BE Mechanical Engineering, BE Civil Engineering, BE Chemical Engineering, and BTech Environmental Engineering

  • Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry/Computer Science for BE Computer Engineering, BE Geomatics Engineering, BArch, BSc in Computer Science, BSc in Computational Mathematics, BTech in Al.
  • Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology for BTech in Biotechnology and BSc in Environmental Science.
  • Physics, Chemistry, and Biology for BSc in Agriculture.

2.7 Candidates who have completed +2 equivalents with letter grades shall be submitting the marks equivalent of grades from the equivalence authority at the time of admission.

2.8 CTEVT diploma holders (3 years education after SLC/SEE) may apply in the related discipline corresponding to their field of study at the diploma level. Eligibility requirements are the same as that of percentage criteria for NEB +2 graduates.

2.9 Candidates with ISC in Agriculture are eligible to apply for BSc in Agriculture. Eligibility requirements are the same as that of percentage criteria for NEB +2 graduates.

2.10 In case of dispute related to application, eligibility. CBT exam and final score. the decision of the KUCAT CBT 2021 committee will be final.

3. Summary of application procedure and KUCAT-CBT-2021:

3.1 Candidates apply for the admission and the entrance test ONLINE through the application portal http://applv.ku.edu.np/. Applicants need to deposit the application processing fee through the specified method.

3.2 Applicants submit the bank voucher/transaction code as evidence of fee payment at the application portal. Use the payment mode and payment partner as instructed in section

2.4 of "Procedure of Application and Admission 2021".

3.3 Applicants must download and color print the admission card in A4 size paper when it becomes available at the applicant's registered account.

3.5 Candidates are required to note the merit list published after the entrance exams.

3.6 Admission is offered based on the merit list.

3.7 If offered admission, candidates are required to complete the admission procedures as instructed in the admission offer notice published by each school.

3.8 If seats remain unfilled (after merit list), the admission committee may decide to fill the seats through EOI (expression of interest). Rules and other details regarding EOI will be made public during the EOI call.

4. Fee structure

4.1 The total course fee to be paid by any student for the entire duration of study is as shown in the table below. The allocated fees do not include facilities like hostel, transportation, and end semester/compartment exam fee. Students need to pay separate fees for additional services as per University regulations.

4.2 The given fee structure is for completing the minimum specified courses within the minimum required academic years. Students willing to secure extra credit courses / repeating sessions, or failing to complete the courses within the specified time frame may be required to pay extra fees accordingly as per University regulations.

4.3 Limited number of scholarships are available for meritorious and financially weak students as per KU provision.

Important information:

5.1 Admission will be offered on a merit basis based on CBT score (rank) for both open and reserved (quota) seat categories. KUCAT-CBT-202 I Pass mark criteria are also applicable for both categories.

5.2 One candidate can have only one application and will be allowed to appear in KUCAT-CBT-2021 only once.

5.3 Foreign nationals are eligible to apply for admission, provided they fulfill all minimum requirements. There is reserved quota for foreign nationals.

5.4 Candidates are strongly advised to read thoroughly the KUCAT CBT-related information before appearing for the test. Following documents, "Procedure of Application and Admission 2021", "Information on KUCAT Computer Based Test (KUCAT-CBT) and Test Syllabus 2021", "Information for Applicants of Geomatics Engineering 2021" "Information Or Applicants of BTech in AI 2021" and other documents available in admission portal provides comprehensive information.

5.5 Reserved seats will be allotted according to KU provision. Contact university administration to know about the eligibility in reserved seats.

5.6 Notification for Quota seats and respective eligibility criteria will be provided through separate notice.

5.7 In case, the number of seats filled is less than 50% by two weeks of the start of the regular academic session, University may decide to suspend the program and return all the fees paid by the admitted students within a week of the declaration of suspension of the program.

Please note that, under the present circumstances of the COVID 19 pandemic, there may be changes in schedules, deadlines, mode of entrance, and evaluation schemes.

Changes will be timely notified through the University website and application portal.

 

If the current pandemic persists, and conduction of entrance test is deemed not possible, Kathmandu University Academic Council may decide on other methods of ranking for merit-based admission offer. Candidates will be informed about any such developments through notices in the KU website.

6. Additional Information:

6.1 Girls and Boys Hostel facilities are available inside the University premises. An only a limited number of students may be accommodated in the University hostels. Accommodation will be allotted according to KU provision after admission.

6.2 Public Transportation services are available from Kathmandu. One-way travel time from Kathmandu to University in normal condition is approximately 2 hours in public transport and 1 hour in a private vehicle.

6.3 Latitude and Longitude of KUCAT-CBT-2021 entrance exam central is 27°37'09.8"N 85°32'14.4" E (27.619388, 85.537336).
