Only educational institutions with their own 100-bed hospital will be able to offer certificate level (PCL) nursing education. Devendra Poudel, who is also the chairman of the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT), has decided to open admission only to colleges that meet the criteria.

CTEVT Member Secretary Jivanarayan Kafle informed that the process of admission of nursing will start with the decision of the council. The Ministry of Health and Population has given approval to conduct teaching in the 100-bed provincial hospital in the CTEVT component educational institution.

The Medical Education Commission has already given permission to enroll students in private educational institutions with their own 100-bed hospital. Kafle said that it has been decided to immediately enroll students in the educational institutions that meet the criteria as per the provisions of the Act.

The law stipulates that the teaching institution needs its own 100-bed hospital to teach nursing, while the same educational institution is not allowed to offer BSc (undergraduate level) and PCL nursing education.

Only 24 out of 109 educational institutions under CTEVT have met these two criteria. Out of 24 colleges, 17 are private colleges and 7 are affiliated colleges of CTEVT.

According to the new arrangement, 24 educational institutions that have fulfilled the criteria will be able to enroll about one thousand five hundred students. CTEVT member secretary Kafle said that the entrance test for nurses with 100-bed hospital will be announced soon.
